Neil is a cartoonist, designer, and educator, based in Madison, Wisconsin. After spending more than fifteen years creating visual stories for theatre, television, and themed entertainment, he now focuses on cartooning as a way to explore humor, character, and everyday life.
His career has included designing scenery and immersive environments for productions ranging from Off-Broadway theatre and NBC television to theme park attractions and experiential entertainment. He holds an MFA in Scenic Design from Carnegie Mellon University and has taught design and visual storytelling at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and other institutions.
Neil's cartoons often feature animals navigating distinctly human predicaments. Inspired by wordplay, idioms, and visual puns, his work imagines creatures finding themselves in absurd, awkward, and unexpectedly relatable, situations. Drawing on a background in theatre, anthropology, and visual design, he uses humor and storytelling to reveal the quirks of both the animal kingdom and the human one.
